Delete Your Koalie Account

Koalie is developed and operated by Brian McDaniel.

Delete it in the app

Open Koalie and go to Settings, then Delete my account. The screen shows exactly what will be removed for your account before you confirm. Deletion happens immediately, and you are signed out.

If you can't sign in, email hello@koalie.app from the address associated with your account and we'll do it for you.

You don't have to delete your whole account to have data removed. You can request deletion of just one child's profile and data, or any other specific piece of data, by emailing us and telling us what to delete. Your account and any other children's data stay intact.

What gets deleted

Your sign-in is disabled and your email address is removed from our records at the same time, so that address is free to use again if you ever come back.

If you share a household with a co-parent

Your children's records belong to both of you, so deleting your account does not delete them out from under the other parent. Your access ends and the records stay with your co-parent. If you want the records gone as well, ask them to remove the children first, or email us and we'll walk through it.

What is retained, and why

ParentBox messages (communication with school staff) are retained as permanent school records for FERPA compliance and dispute resolution, even after account deletion. Neither the parent nor Koalie can delete these unilaterally. We work with the relevant school to facilitate access to these records as required by law. So that a retained message still shows who wrote it, we keep the name and email address that were on the account at the moment it was deleted, attached to those conversations and nowhere else.

If your child is connected to a school, the records that school wrote about them stay with the school: grades, progress notes, benchmark and standardized scores, conference notes, and anything its staff recorded. Those are the school's records, not ours to erase, for the same reason ParentBox messages are kept. Everything you kept in Koalie about that child is still deleted, and the child is no longer tied to your account. To have the school's own records removed, ask the school directly.

Records of payments you made through Koalie are also kept, as financial records we are required to retain.
